Over the past several years, our school has completed many projects to enhance the learning of our students. Some of these projects include new equipment, interventions, and special education supports. However, our school is lacking a space for students to engage in mindfulness, emotional regulation, and social emotional learning on a daily basis. We are seeking to strengthen our community by creating a Relax Room, a room where all students can access ongoing mental health support within the school. The supplies requested will transform an empty classroom into the Relax Room. To make this room a welcoming and comfortable space, we request bean bag chairs, soft lighting, an essential oil diffuser, sound machine, foam mat floor tiles, and sand timers. We request supplies to begin creating the structure for social emotional supports, sensory play, and tools for self-regulation that are evidence-based interventions to help students cope with various challenges. Through these techniques, students can benefit from increased attention span and emotional regulation to decreased anxiety and better academic outcomes. Bringing these benefits to the entire student body is something we are very excited about.
