Many of my students require strong visuals to facilitate learning. I show pictures, images, illustrations, preferably in color to help with understanding. It may not seem like much, but printing in color helps my student evoke images in their minds, which help them with understanding. When vocabulary is front-loaded, students can see what the word is in pictures, in color. EX. If I mention the word, quilt, a picture of a quilt allows a student who may not know what a quilt is, to really know what it looks like. That student can now make inferences as to what the quilt may be used for, and how. Many students do not have the same amount of exposure as their peers. As diverse as my students are in various way, my goal is to make sure they are equally exposed to the same materials. Printing notes, and other work in color will enable me to do this, and provide much needed visuals for my students.
