The markers will be used to create posters about plastic pollution, cigarette butt pollution, composting, reusing products, and recycling. These posters will be on display at local community events and also in our school buildings. The composting signs will adorn lawns on Aquidneck Island for families who have begun composting at home. This is in conjunction with the Healthy Seas & Healthy Soils project that is through Clean Ocean Access, a local organization here in Newport. SuperScience magazines provide students with great motivation to read nonfiction text. It also promotes great conversation among students about a variety of science topics. In addition, the magazine offers some really cool hands-on activities to supplement our science curriculum. As students become more involved in both local and worldly environmental issues, they will learn about the ways that they can impact change in their world. This is a powerful lesson for students to learn at an early age.
