Keyboarding is an essential 21st Century skill. The keyboards will be attached to student iPads and allow the students to work on online keyboarding programs that will help the students become more familiar with how the keyboard is laid out. For many of my first and second graders, this is their only experience with keyboards until they reach third grade, when they will be using laptops in school. One program that I love to use with my kindergartners and first graders is a program called Keyboard Builder, which introduces the students to the keyboard and where the keys are. My second graders will use a program called Dance Mat Typing, which is a fun and engaging program that teaches the students finger placement and typing on the keyboard. I will also be making these keyboards available to my first and second grade teachers to use with students in class as they complete work.
