My well-behaved third grade students attend public school. The school is designated as a School of Promise. This is based on the high state test scores and also the high level of poverty among the students. These students do not have electricity at home and because of this really celebrate reading as a form of entertainment. Unfortunately, it is hard to find children's books with Amish children as the main characters. Award winning author Wanda Brunstetter has written a children's book series, Rachel Yoder-Always Trouble Somewhere. Rachel is an Amish nine-year-old in the first book and in each book she grows older and gets into many adventures. There are eight books in this series. I have multiple copies of the first two books and have read them to my class. They enjoyed the books and I had the author visit our class when she was traveling to our town. The students and I would like multiple copies of books 3 - 8 to have in our classroom to enjoy.
