Reading nonfiction will help students expand their understanding of the world around them and build background knowledge. Our hope is that if our students and families have access to books and reading materials that are high-interest and engaging, they will develop necessary reading skills, boost their vocabulary, and have the ability to think, talk and write about what they read. The objective of Keeping it Real with Nonfiction is to support students and their families in becoming passionate about and developing a true love for reading. Through this home-school partnership, we hope to improve overall student performance. This objective will be measured through formal and informal assessments, as well as surveys for parents, students, and teachers to measure success towards intended outcomes. Conferences with students will help determine the effectiveness of the program.
