The last year has been difficult for the entire country, especially school-aged children. I teach at a Title I school, which means that the surrounding neighborhood is categorized as having a high poverty level. Our students are already at risk of falling behind academically and are at an economic disadvantage when it comes to meeting state standards. Virtual learning has put a strain on our students and has put them at an even greater academic disadvantage. We have been working extremely hard to close the gaps in learning caused by the pandemic. My 5th graders have returned to the building and have been working extremely hard to get back on track along with their virtual peers at home. We have been extremely focused and I would love to bring more joy and fun to them as their joy tank is on E with everything going on in the world.
My students deserve to be rewarded for getting through one of the toughest school years of their lives. They deserve to be motivated to keep going. They deserve to have some fun. I am asking for some assistance to purchase recess activities and some incentives to motivate/reward my students for all of the grit they have shown throughout the school year during a pandemic.
Some prizes will include science kits, arts and crafts kits, snacks, slime, and other little knick knacks that 5th graders enjoy!
