Our school provides a food pantry available to all students, many of whom are experiencing poverty and food insecurity. Sometimes school breakfast and lunch aren't enough for growing bodies through the day, so snacks are available during the day. Food bags to take home--especially on the weekends and over school breaks--are also available. Not knowing if and what you will eat over the weekend makes it difficult to focus on school. Making sure our students feel safe, including from food insecurity, helps them to be connected to school, and students who are connected to their school do better behaviorally and academically.
