This is a wonderful, enriching literacy activity for my students. I wanted them to have the special experience that comes from studying a book in small groups. I also wanted each student to select a book from a list of books with a common theme, coming of age. I didn't want it to be another book that I selected for them. I wanted them to have the opportunity to choose! They'll read the book as a team and then take turns as discussion leader, artist, quote finder, and vocabulary enricher. This allows them to stretch in different roles and to view the same book from 4 different perspectives. The assignment and circles will allow them to read a book of their choosing and develop some independence as they prepare for high school!
