This rug will be the center of our classroom meeting area. Students will have plenty of room on this new carpet to comfortably participate in morning meetings, read alouds, and whole group lessons. Building community is essential step in making a classroom an engaging and safe learning environment were students feel comfortable taking risks. Morning meetings allow students the opportunity to build trust, share special news, and boost empathy and teamwork. Read alouds provide students with the opportunity to listen to or read books to the class solely for enjoyment. Read alouds also allow us to explore strong emotions and social situations, and builds bonds. In addition, read alouds improve vocabulary, increases attention span, and strengthens cognition. An area rug is a simple addition to a classroom that can make it more inviting to students.
