I teach a wonderful and diverse group of 5th grade children in California. Our class consists of gifted and talented students, as well as English Language Learners, and special education students. All enjoy school and are enthusiastic about learning. We live in a suburban community where most households require a dual income just to make ends meet. Our parents are appreciative for their children's education and see our school as a true asset to the community. Our school is relatively new, but we do not qualify for any extra funding from our district and each year we are met with more cuts to our basic programs. The students readily accept challenges and love learning opportunities. They are excited at the prospect of researching gardening, designing and cultivating a garden on campus, and sharing this opportunity with the community of students, teachers, and families.
