The funds will provide me with the resources and materials I need to carry out my functional skills program. I need to help and support my students in bridging the gap between academics and skills that they will learn and/or need practice. When I do a writing, math, or science lesson, I incorporate it with other lessons on vocational skills, social skills, and daily living skills. For example, I pair my academic-based lessons to cooking, art, vocational tasks, community experience, as so on. I'm drawing parallels in the lessons so that there's more meaning behind what I'm teaching, as well as expanding my students' learning experience because they're making connections. The resources and materials I asked for will certainly benefit my classroom because as it is a brand new classroom to the high school and I was given limited materials to support my students and their learning. These materials will not only help my current students this year but also in the following years. These materials will be the foundation of how I'm able to run my program more efficiently. It will give me a boost in creating a rich classroom environment that my students can learn and benefit from. Additionally, with these funds, I will be better equipped to create a vocational task for my students can engage in (e.g. coffee cart, recycling program, etc.). The funds will help me, help my students, in a variety of ways. As a result, the program and my students will thrive.
