My students will embark on a 3-unit module about animal defense mechanisms. Each student will select an animal to research. Students will conduct extensive research on their animal, including animal defenses, habitat, characteristics, diet, population, and life cycle. Then, they will be using their research findings to create posters, graphs, and/or dioramas to present the information to the class. Research has shown that when students are allowed to create physical representations, it helps to solidify learning. Students will use the requested materials to elicit their creativity and build a project to be able to communicate their findings to others. Many times students are not given enough opportunities to be able to fully express their creativity at school. Projects such as these give students that opportunity and make lifelong learning.
