The student who would receive this laptop will be able to now participate in distance learning, just like her peers. She will be able to sign into class every day, submit her work on time, and join in on the virtual class discussions. She will no longer have to pick up hard copies from the school or complete lengthy assignments on her phone or her brother's phone. She will be able to have the same distance learning experience as her peers. By providing this student with a laptop, she will be given the chance to thrive academically, and she will also be able to feel connected. This connection is so vital for students during this time of social distancing. She would feel connected to her classes, her peers, and her community. Right now she is missing out on that connection. She is left to just exist within the four walls of her home, rather than the world a piece of technology can offer her during this time. If there is one thing this pandemic has emphasized is that those who are lower on the socioeconomic ladder are at a further disadvantage than their affluent counterparts. While teenagers are feeling stressed all over the country/world, those who struggle financially are now being reminded of this disadvantage daily. This laptop is just one small way to help remind her that she can be successful.
