My project asks for a set of the Interactive History novels that are applicable to our US History since 1865 curriculum. These books are in a "choose your own adventure" format that gives kids great content information and keeps them interested as we read. Our teachers raised money to buy the 6th grade curriculum-related novels and would love to expand this to 7th grade. Access to these books will help increase reading skills. The books can be used in both history class and language arts class to build background knowledge, increase interactivity, and practice prediction and making inferences. With our state SOL test taken away, students must complete high-school level reading/writing analysis of primary sources now; having books to help develop reading skills and pique their interest about content would be a huge help. Books will be used both by the history and language arts teachers in class as extensions and be available for checkout by students before and after the unit.
