Every day our Apollos are navigating the outer reaches of our lessons to help our community. We are a group of teachers and students who believe we can reach the stars by starting here, now. We are a Leader In Me school and partnered with NASA. Our student journalism team will break into small groups (2 or 3 each group). I will pick the groups to insure rotation in positions for each Apollo journalists. We will have news stories, opinion, a week ahead column, and more! Our student journalists will copy their assignments into their journals. They will pick their team assignment from a hat. Each team will then use their tablet to photograph, record, and research their part of the story for the Apollos Gazette. Tablets will be used to take notes and record quotes as well. Once ready to proceed, our journalists will head to the field and begin their assignments with the end in mind for a concise and honest newsletter. Student journalists will return to the classroom at the half way point of class time. Once back, each group will discuss their findings and research. Group leaders will bring their stories to me for discussion and editing. This will include those who are team leaders for the day. Once finished, we will sort articles by topic and importance to begin placement for the newsletter. Students will use their team tablets as i use the smartboard to ready our newsletter for final approval and distribution. Since we are a blended learning school, our online students will participate as well. They will also be included with a team to coordinate news stories from the community around us. This will allow us a broader base for students to work with. Online students will also take part in the editing.
