Academic expectations in a kindergarten classroom in today's society is very demanding. Many more students are having difficulty with these expectations and teachers are seeing more meltdowns, self-injury, aggressiveness, outbursts, or shutdowns. Sensory breaks can increase the ability to calm down, focus, learn -- and self-regulate in the classroom. By providing stress balls, a balance board, or lighting covers, students will better be able to attend while sitting at the rug. Play-Doh and Kinetic Sand can be an outlet for kids that are feeling frustrated or overwhelmed. These brain-breaks will give students what they need so they can learn.
