My students have difficulty when it comes to communication. Having taught in an Autism self-contained classroom for over 5 years, I understand how frustrated they get when they do not have a way to express themselves. This is why I have requested one Apple tablet with headphones. This tablet will be utilized by the children to develop their communication skills. We currently have a program in place that can be accessed on the tablets for their early developmental needs. As research continues to provide us with the latest findings, the challenge becomes meeting the existing needs of the children while adapting new strategies to their routine. This tablet will help the children function independently while simultaneously allowing me to reinforce daily life skills. We also requested an HP Pavilion laptop that can turn to look like a tablet. This way they can generalize the skills they learn on the tablet and transfer it to the computer. This will allow them to get ready for First Grade, when computers are being used constantly. By practicing all these skills through technology, it will allow them to face their daily challenges head on as part of their routine. This will also instill and fortify confidence in communicating while using the apps the tablets and the laptop have to offer.
