Students like to do rather than watch, so even though a demonstration is cool, it is better to get hands-on and perform. Students need to practice lab safety, not just learn about it, and aprons are part of the scientist's uniform. Students definitely take the experiment more seriously when they are in their "uniform" and ready to learn. Many experiments require safety equipment and I just don't have enough aprons for my entire class to participate. Many labs that include chemicals require goggles and aprons. Aprons are used to protect the student and their clothes from stains, burns, or other dangerous chemicals.
