Mission: “To create a challenging and supportive learning community that engages each student in understanding and building a connected, just, and sustainable world.” Our urban middle school is a public charter school with 204 students in grades 6 - 8. Each grade level consists of sixty-eight students, four teachers, and a suite of two classrooms. Our curriculum takes an integrated, interdisciplinary approach in all areas. Through student driven lessons, questions, projects, and service-learning we strive to create independent learners, critical and creative thinkers, and active and responsible participants in a global society. Each grade level plans three or four yearly themes based on current issues and state requirements. Themes includes language arts, social studies, science, the arts, and some sort of civic action. During each theme students complete an individual, small group, and whole class project.
