Students today feel empowered by having some degree of choice and control over their learning environment, and with flexible seating students can choose where they work and with whom. It also allows them to change their location and positions as needed. During independent and group work they choose a location in the classroom that works for them. Currently, my students are choosing to work in a variety of locations in our classroom such as: on cushions with clipboards, at an old coffee table with white boards, and on old crates with padding. When students are comfortable they are more engaged and get more work completed than when they are just sitting at their desk. Student comfort it is a vital part in motivating them. My students are remarkably more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they are given a choice of where to work.
I have noticed incredible differences in behavior and academic success in my students when they are able to select where they sit and work. The merchandise that I have selected will benefit my students by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices. The cushioned bench will allow students to sit in pairs with the option to straddle if they need to adjust their posture or just shift position. The pillows will still allow comfort while sitting or lying down. The “Go Anywhere” Chairs will allow for additional comfortable floor seating options. The pillows and chairs are lightweight and can be easily used or moved in many areas of the classroom.
I have witnessed how options can positively affect my students work and behavior and anticipate that the additional options will help us grow even more!
