Play is an integral part of a classroom and learning environment. It helps students grow socially, emotionally and academically. With these manipulatives, my students will build, explore, create and communicate to work together on given project cards with a STEM challenge, such as "build and construct a house for an animal", "build the highest tower using only one block for the base," "create a tower to hold the most books," or "build a domino chain with anything BUT dominos." In our active learning classroom environment my students are encouraged to engage in discovery and exploration of these manipulatives and building materials. Play in the classroom can benefit all students, especially after a year with distance learning. Play can decrease stress, stimulate the mind, boost creativity, teach cooperation and help to develop and improve social skills. We will use these building materials and manipulatives daily and they will be available to my diverse class of Hmong, Karenni and Karen students.
