I am requesting wobble stools in order to implement flexible seating in my classroom. The wobble stool was recommended to educators to be used with students who have difficulty sitting still or for a long period of time. The wobble stool has physical benefits to children as well. Even when sitting, your body remains in motion rather than in a stiff sitting posture. This active sitting promotes spinal position and muscle stimulation.
Flexible classrooms help students take ownership as they are given the choice of what kind of learning space works best for them. This also helps them to work collaboratively with their peers, communicate and engage in critical thinking. When students are provided with an appropriate learning environment, they are more likely to be more engaged, participate more and therefore, learn more.
I am also requesting more level H (DRA 14) and level I (DRA 16) books that students can read independently during reader’s workshop.
I hope to have enough variety of books that allows all students to find books that are at their level and match their interests. In this way, I hope to create in them a love for reading and learning!
