The high school library that I run needs 1 iPad to work with the green screen that has already been purchased. The iPad and green screen would work to jump-start my maker space program for the high school students at Hillcrest. A maker space is a place where students can create, invent, explore and discover using a variety of tools and materials. Maker spaces are extremely important and relevant at the high school level because students have the capacity and fortitude to engage in prolonged discovery and exploration which will hopefully; help them connect their skills to possible careers. Also, students are being asked all the time to create videos and online presentations in their classes, but the students I work with do not have data plans or high-performance cell phones, and most do not even have WiFi access at home. The library is the place the students come for their technology they do not have at home. The iPad and green screen would be offered to all students and they could use this technology to advance their grades, learn a new skill for their future, and/or experience advance technology for the first time. My District is now in a budget crisis, so they are no longer funding the library and I just need this last piece to start my maker space program. I work in a low-income school where the students are falling behind in the world of technology and this could help them move forward.
