I am the School Psychologist and Social Emotional Learning Specialist at a small, free K-12 charter school. I work with approximately 50 students weekly grades K-12. Another 100 students monthly. The SEL position is new to our school and district, consequently while there is funding for my salary (same as a teacher), there was not funding for curriculum, or other necessary items for my office/classroom. We have a large percentage of students whose social-emotional needs impact their academics daily. Due to support from strangers and community members we are able to change this for the positive and our graduation rate is 100% with 50% of the students either being with us since Kindergarten, children or siblings of alumni. The other 50% is students whom join us in middle school specifically for our small class size and overall enrollment.
