Imagine the scene, a group of sophisticated 14 year old students running and laughing across a football field like kindergarten students. What are they doing? Well, they are retrieving their very own model rockets that have just survived initial flights! That’s right! We are going to investigate and explore the physics of flight to review for the upcoming STAAR test. Sir Issac Newton and his three famous laws of motion will be revisited and come alive in the hearts and minds of our students. Students will design and construct their own model rocket so that it is able to sustain a straight and steady flight into the bright afternoon sun. Ever mindful of the property of inertia and air resistance, they will custom create and pack a parachute, insuring a safe return to earth. And finally, prior to pressing the button for lift-off, they will be able to explain the equal and opposite power of the engine that propels it skyward. Join us on our adventure, won’t you?
