My students need varied, less conventional approaches to learning letters and numbers as they all learn a little differently, and need to use their bodies in addition to their eyes. Practicing writing letters in 2 colored sand trays will provide a different visual and tactile experience than typical paper/pencil activities. Wiki sticks and letter construction blocks will allow their bodies greater movement as they build and touch the letters. These multi-sensory activities will help to train their brains, eyes, and hands to recognize and produce numbers and letters correctly. This will not only increase their reading, writing, and math skills, but also enhance their self-image as well.
