Often times, my students will enter my classroom looking tired and needing extra encouragement after being welcomed into the class. However, many students have difficulty focusing on learning because they are focused when lunch is coming. My students have been very appreciative of snacks I provide in my room. When students are allowed to eat a snack while they are in independent reading, they are able to stay focused and really read for pleasure and increase vocabulary at the same time. Being able to provide a variety of snack options daily allows each student to enjoy that just right snack.
