A stress-free student has an open mind to learning! Sensory tools in the classroom help maximize learning and encourage a growth mindset. I am asking for three different tools to help minimize stress and maximize our different learning styles! The balance chair balls help students to release extra energy and stress as their minds are then freed to learn.Having a chance to choose a different seat also empowers young learners. Weighted lap blankets help to calm and soothe students who are feeling anxious about learning or about their world which interferes with learning. Finally, I am asking for sound canceling headphones which help create a calm environment for students are distracted by outside noise. My students are more productive when properly managing stress levels. Using proper tools and having some freedom in creating their own learning environment help students regain a sense of control over their own learning. From my student with autism to the GATE student with ADD, these tools help students to take ownership over their own learning. According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, children with anxiety perform poorly in school, miss out on important social interactions and by their teen years have a greater risk of substance abuse. Creating a classroom that not only helps students feel less anxiety but also teaches them the skills to deal with anxiety moving forward is significant for success.
