I teach in a small school. We do not have a lot of extra classrooms. During the 2020-2021 school year, my music classes were relocated to the school auditorium to allow students to space out to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 between students. For the 2021-2022 school year, we have been moved to the small elementary school gym. While neither one of these situations are ideal for the students or myself, it is the necessary requirement to keep our students healthy. Spacing students out requires more supplies as they are not able to share resources. The added supplies will allow more students the opportunity to participate in activities, giving them the chance to experience their creative side. In the years past, the Junior High and High School students have been able to sit close to each other and share music stands. With COVID-19 still a current concern, it is not a practical expectation to have students sharing music stands and singing close to each other. The younger elementary students have been able to share boom whackers during music class time. The extra mallets will provide the opportunity for the students to not have to share mallets and allow me time to sanitize supplies between classes. Due to COVID-19, the sharing of classroom supplies without proper sanitizing is not a practical practice currently, causing a need for more classroom supplies.
