So many ways these great stories could be utilized to increase my students’ reading comprehension! Our school library has these titles, unfortunately not always a set of 4-6 books. One way these books can be used is for Guided Reading small group instruction. Rich in literary details, the stories in these books could be used to increase their level of thinking and comprehension. Also, these chapter books could be used during Independent Reading time. My students will write a response to their readings where I can confer with them about their opinions to their reading. Another way these well known books could help my readers is during Reading Clubs. They will love to discuss the problems faced by the characters, the events that take place to get to the solution, and the theme of the stories. My 4th graders will love to read these books and write their responses seated on the comfy chairs and table requested.
