I have very high expectations for my students because they are smart, kind, and determined. I just need a little more help bringing the world to them so that they can understand the concepts I am trying to teach them. I used to teach at a private school where we had great maps to help the students understand how location, topography, and resources have created the history they learn. At my Title I public school we do not have these great maps and I can see the students struggling to understand. I keep going to pull down my map and there just isn't one there. The students also need math manipulatives to help them understand difficult math concepts. I have seen the difference that these manipulatives have in student understanding. Our last major need is classroom organization. The students need an organized space so that they can focus on their learning.
