We utilize lab activities to greatly improve student understanding of the lesson. However, materials needed for Forensic Science can be quite costly when you consider biological items such as bones, blood, microscopes, and much more. We intend to use these lab kits and brushes with pre-made lab instructions to provide the opportunity for students to engage with the lesson using the same equipment found in a Forensic lab. This is great exposure to the different real-life techniques Forensic Investigators use when identifying people based on blood characteristics or fingerprints. Much simpler things, such as using colored paper for their worksheets improve the aesthetic of their work. Sometimes, white copy paper can become quite dull and boring. I intend to brighten up their mood and generate interest with the bright colored worksheets. We will use the Post-it chart paper to post sticky notes with their input on a puzzling question or the like. I like to incentivize my students to engage in the lesson and go above and beyond in their work. Therefore, I like to reward students for exceeding expectations in these areas by giving away red raffle tickets. One of the things they can 'purchase' with these tickets are snacks. If they do a superb job on something like an exam, they'll earn a polished Certificate of Achievement! Many students, while they are not allowed to use their cellular devices unless given permission for an activity, need to charge their phones. I will use the power strips to both protect their phones from a power surge but also provide more charging stations due to the limited number of power outlets in the room.
