Research shows that allowing students to sit in comfortable, flexible seating options greatly enhances their focus. With your help my classroom will change because I would be able to offer students a variety of seating options based on what best meets their needs. Our classroom small group tables are used each day to pull students for small group instruction. Sadly, there are currently NO chairs at either of the small group tables. Our small group tables are utilized all day every day for small group testing, small group instruction, make up work, RTI groups, etc. The students that receive small group instruction and testing also have IEP goals and benefit from a flexible seating area to keep them focused on the task. Currently, my students are picking up their heavy chairs from their desks and moving them multiple times a day to the small group tables.This takes a great deal of time away from students education. Some students can't lift their chair and drag it. Not only would the wobble stools be used as a seating option at the small group table but also when the small group table is not being utilized could be used for students that have focusing needs or need constant movement. Multiple of my students have to stand during instruction just to keep their focus. I LOVE that they do this because it shows me they are holding themselves accountable. However, it can be distracting to other students depending on where their standing. Wobble still will allow students to still be sitting down and moving.
