Many of my special education students come from homes where they do not get the opportunity to have a lot of toys or even many things they like. All of my students also have difficulty controlling their behavior while in school. I work with all of them on a daily basis to help increase their time in the classroom and decrease their time spent in my room or the principal's office because of their behaviors.
One of the most difficult parts of my job is trying to find something that is both rewarding and educational to give the students as rewards for meeting their weekly behavior goals. I have found that my students all love 3D printing! I have a small old 3D printer at home and I have made a few things that I have brought in to show them and they all want me to make things for them as rewards.
I thought it would be great for my classroom to have our own 3D printer that the students can use to design and create their own weekly rewards. That way they know what they are working for each week and it gives them the incentive they need to try hard because they know they are working for something that they create themselves.
By funding this project I will be able to get a 3D printer and enough filament to last a long time in my classroom.
