All of our students need opportunities for success. Students need to see that reading can be fun, motivating, and feel successful! My project focuses on creating a comfortable space with cozy seating for reading, as well as learning to be a good reader with books that they can understand. I want to teach my students that reading is more than just something they have to learn, but that reading can take us to places we never dreamed. Who really wants to sit on a plastic chair while reading a book? Or sit on a hard floor trying to imagine places described in a book? No one! Why would we try to convince our students that reading is enjoyable on the floor or in a chair, when we would read on a cozy couch, or in our beds. With these cushions, students will be able to feel cozy and feel the warmth of a book. The books I have included in my project are specific to my students. They are books that they can pick up, and read by sounding out and by recognising tricky words that we have learned. What better way to make a student want to read than to give them a book that they CAN read? With my book bins, my students will become independent in looking for a book that is specifically leveled for them. They will get to choose and they will WANT to choose! Help me build successful readers!
