Miami-Dade County Public Schools has only provided a digital version of the World History textbook this year, but there are not enough laptops for each student to read. This is in line with the recent push to include more technology in the classroom, and I and my fellow teachers are all for it. Unfortunately, there are not enough laptops in the school to go around. I have access to 20 laptops in various conditions (15 of which I can reasonably say are "reliable". I also have classes with over 25 students. Many of these students do not have computer access at home, and school hours are their only chance to read the textbook and engage in online research.
Simply put, there are not enough laptops to go around. This project will fund 2 new Chromebooks that can be used on a daily basis. They will have the battery life to last all day and can be used for varied tasks from textbook reading to research projects. While 2 is not enough to provide a laptop to each student, it is a start and can help ensure that there are a few dependable devices per group in class.
