My second graders do oral book reports once a month. These books will give them more of a selection. For instance, one of the book reports they dress up as the main character and tell the summary through the character's view point. It is also important for kids to read for enjoyment and use their imagination while reading. I want the students to see what they are reading and make connections. Students can also have discussions with each other about the books they are reading. Reading and writing go hand in hand. The students love to be critics. Through writing they can express themselves.
