At the moment, we only have access to about 30 Chromebooks for the 2nd floor classrooms. We have to share with all of the other teachers, making it hard to teach about computer science without actual laptops to teach them on. This set of 30 Chromebooks will give my scholars a chance to be able to learn coding and computer science. Not only will they be learning that, but they will also be learning how to research and integrate other skills into their repertoire, making them more marketable at an early age. These skills will not only benefit them in my classroom but they will be able to generalize these skills learned to all other subjects, not to mention the benefits of learning coding like problem solving, and creative thinking skills.
These new computers will help my students with special needs and young students access technology more easily. Our school serves classes from Pre-K up to 5th grade. Forty-three percent of the students are English Language Learners and 34% are students with special needs. I work with grades K-5. I also plan on using these chrome books to help engage families in the process of learning. I will facilitate mini teaching sessions for parents during parent engagement time on how to track their students growth, access current work assignments, and contact teachers via Google classroom.
