Recently several students found a Jenga game on one of my shelves. Rather than play the game the traditional way, they used the pieces to build towers and bridges. Recently, they built a spiral and then watched as one tipped piece started a chain reaction. The students then went online and looked at videos of "artists" who make designs out of dominoes professionally. They were awed and inspired by some of the creations they saw. The students started to discuss what they could build...could their creation encompass the entire library? How would they use math and physics to design their build? Could we still use the library while they work? We have a limited number of Jenga pieces and they are not properly shaped for a project of this nature. Real dominoes will allow the students to really get creative.
