I was inspired by the Pixar film "Inside Out", and I want to give my students the opportunity to create a character based on their emotions. Many of my students have experienced trauma in their lives and I believe that art is a powerful healing tool. Allowing the kids to personify their emotions is a way to help them understand and work through them. Making a project based around emotions also gives me a doorway to understanding my students better, and the better I understand their emotions the better I will be able to support them. Personal connection is what my teaching style is built on, because an art community needs trust, love, and comfort to thrive. This project would not only be super fun for the kiddos, but would make them explore their own feelings, all in a new medium they have never had the chance to try.
