I am asking for these books because I am wanting to spice up my curriculum with topics that are sure to outrage and intrigue my students. They are familiar with Sharon Draper, so I would like to get a class set of Out of My Mind because it gives voice to a problem that many Americans deal with: ableism and prejudice against disabilities. I want to be able to plan lessons on a topic that will grab their attention and get them interested in reading the book. I want my students to enjoy reading and see that books are not outdated, and cover important topics that pertain to them and their world. I also would like to have more interesting silent reading materials for my students to use, as we do not have a school library. They need materials that are more suited to their interests, as well as topics that will broaden their horizons.
