I have set up my Personal Finance class to operate like life. The kids learn real life skills like budgeting, planning for college, decision making, SMART Goals, buying or renting housing, the use of credit, savings and investing, playing the stock market, purchasing insurance and filing a tax return. We have money, they get paid for coming to class on-time, they get paid extra for extra work completed, they have to rent there chair in my class, they sign a rental agreement for the desk they choose. They choose to buy or not to buy insurance. I throw in a life peril every week or so to show the necessity of having insurance. The materials I chose are for reinforcement and reward as well as general class supplies. I think the more you offer a kid (external rewards) the better they perform. They are a very competitive group.
