Almost every elementary music program across the country has access to Orff instruments. Currently, my school has none and I would love to expand our program by placing them in the hands of our incredibly musical students. Giving our students access to these mallet instruments will bring their music learning to a whole new level. The Orff Schulwerk approach teaches musical skills through active participation in music making. Music becomes a sensory experience where children use songs, poems, rhymes, dances, and games as a form of music education. Orff instruments are designed with removable bars, making the instrument adaptive and simple to use. As a result, children of all learning styles can be successful creating beautiful music from the start. The Orff- Schulwerk approach proves that everyone can make music. Our students deserve the best and I would love for them to have access to the same quality music opportunities as other children across the country. We are having fun with our extremely limited collection of non-pitched percussion instruments, however students deserve access to more. By providing these instruments students can foster creativity, continue to explore their innate musical abilities and develop a positive and joyful relationship with music.
