And he was angry at himself, that he could not change that for them.” ― Lois Lowry, The Giver I want nothing more than to be able to pass on my LOVE of reading to my students. Each year, I am encouraged as a new group of 7th Graders become enamored by Jonas and excited to see the spark of wonder in their eyes as his story unfolds. As they start to relate some of his experiences to their own, I watch them start to think about the choices that they are able to make for themselves in a different way. As our current books are aging and starting to come apart at the seams, quite literally, we hope to be able to replace our class set that will serve not only my current class, but future classes in the years to come.
