5th graders can have a lot of energy. Sitting at a conventional desk in a chair just doesn't work for some students. This can make it a challenge for them to focus. To have other seating options in the classroom will be helpful for them to focus on instruction and work completion. They will be able to get rid of excess energy, and it will increase engagement. A stand up desk with a swinging bar allows students to engage their bodies and move their legs and feet while learning. After 8 years of teaching, this is the first year I have used a single standing desk in my classroom. I have seen tremendous benefit for my class. The students share the desk when needed and all of them are enthusiastic to use it. They are calmer, more focused and more successful academically when they use this tool. All students deserve options to be as successful as possible in their classroom environment. We thank you for the support!
