This year my school district is becoming a 1:1 technology district. This means that my students will receive their own individual iPad to use for classroom work. A lot of my students are struggling readers and having this new resource will allow for instruction to be modified to each student's specific needs. The only thing that prevents my students from having the best educational supports is the lack of funding for headphones. With headphones, the students have access to audio books, interactive online lessons, as well as assignments and assessments that can be read to them. This gives students the opportunity to be assessed in what they know, instead of being assessed in what they can't do (ex. read the questions on a test). If this project gets funded, my students will be able to take the headphones as well as the iPads home to use as a resource for homework or projects. This will also allow students to work more independently during centers as they can review what they have been learning about through engaging online activities. As a first year teacher, I am a long way away from being a perfect educator, but I am doing my best to provide them with all the materials and resources that I can in order to get them to perform to their highest potential.
