Students will use the Breakout.edu materials to work in small groups to collaborate and solve a series of historical challenges such as Escape on the Underground Railroad, Spying for General Washington, and Wagon Train or Bust. For example, 3rd grade students will use the constellations and look for hidden symbols, such as lanterns and hanging quilts, known only to Underground Railroad insiders to locate the North Star in their escape from a South Carolina plantation. Using the Breakout.edu products, adds a high interest impact to note worthy historical eras and incorporates a modern twist that our students will find appealing.
