My project of a social-emotional library was created to increase the number of books I have available for teachers and students. I will use them in the classroom to introduce a concept, emotion, or social skills. Such as, I might use the book A Jelly Donut Difference to discuss kindness, friendship, diversity, and social awareness. Where in a small group setting, I may use as a way to discuss appreciate and inappropriate behaviors. A teacher may request to borrow the books to discuss a classroom issue. Social-emotional learning is incredibly important and critical for students to learn and develop. When working with young children (Kindergarten to 2nd Grade), they are learning to deal with their emotions and how to interact with others. Books are a great resource to discuss emotions (anger, disappointment, sadness, fear) and social skills (apologize, making friends, sharing, taking ownership) to my students. These books can help me discuss issues individually or in a classroom discussion.
