Picture this... Third graders come into a classroom, a long roll of black paper is spread out on the floor. "Everyone chose a friend to trace your body laying down but in an action pose, like jumping in the air!" My students would burst with excitement. After tracing and talking about silhouettes, shadows and action, we would continue with cutting out their true-to-life size outline, then create a colorful mosaic to hang in the gym. That's just the beginning! A simple roll of paper would go a long way in the art room. Any action-based project would be a stimuli for these terrific kids. Our students are deprived of gym class, and a playground. Clay is essential for gross and fine motor. Basic art supplies would truly help my students get hands-on experience.
